For people who notice why one video gets shared and another gets scrolled past, and want to make the first kind. Find out what it takes to make things people watch, read and use, from brief to final cut.
20–22 Dec 2026Kuala Lumpur
You might like this if…
- you end up designing the posters for every club and school event
- you've made the banner or the invitation for a family kenduri
- you'd rather redo a draft after honest feedback than post something half-right
Tasks, not job titles
What the work is actually made of
Every job is a bundle of tasks. Here are six from this area. Try sorting them: which would you hand to AI?
Turn a client's brief into one clear idea
Briefs are often vague, so you ask questions until you know who it's for and what they should remember.
Sketch a storyboard for a short video
A few rough frames on paper show the client the idea before anyone spends money on filming.
Make versions of a layout with AI tools
The tool gives you dozens of options in a minute; you pick the one that fits the brand and check you have the rights.
Write captions that work in Bahasa Malaysia and English
A line that works in one language can fall flat or offend in another, so you read it to people who speak it daily.
Cut raw footage into a rough edit
Hours of clips become one tight minute: auto-captions save time, but pacing and story are your call.
Present your work and take the client's feedback
The client may dislike the part you love, and you still listen, ask why and fix it by the deadline.
0 of 6 sorted
On Day 1 you do this for real with a job you choose, then a practitioner tells you where you were wrong.
Skills you practise
- Storytelling
- Visual design
- Feedback and iteration
Who does this work
People you could meet
Practitioners are confirmed for each cohort. These are the kinds of roles in this area and what a day involves.
Content producer
Plans the week's posts, shoots and edits short videos on a phone, replies to comments and checks what the audience actually watched.
Graphic designer
Gets a brief in the morning, makes drafts and versions, sends them for comments and redoes them when the client changes their mind.
Video editor
Sits with hours of footage, builds a rough cut, adds captions and music they have the rights to, then reworks it after notes.
Brand marketer
Writes the brief the creative team works from, plans where a campaign will run and checks afterwards whether it reached the right people.

Questions worth asking them
- “How does a client brief usually reach you, and what is often missing from it?”
- “Tell us about feedback you disagreed with. What did you do?”
- “Which parts of your work does AI already help with, and how do your clients feel about AI-made work?”

Day 2 · the taster
Where you try it
- Your task
- Turn a client brief into a 30-second campaign concept and pitch it to a practitioner.
- Halfway through
- the client tells you most people will watch with the sound off. How does your idea still land in silence?
You leave with the work you made, what you changed and why, linked to your Future Map.
Routes and money
How people get in, and what it pays
Routes in
- 01Diploma or degree
- 02Agency apprenticeship
- 03Freelance and creator work
What each route asks for
- For 2026/27, a polytechnic diploma asked for 3 SPM credits and a pass in Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah; a community college certificate asked for 1 credit and the same passes.
- ASWARA's Diploma in Film and Video takes 36 months and asks for a credit in Bahasa Melayu, at least a D in Sejarah, and a pass in its interview and audition.
- The National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) at Kemasik runs an SKM (Malaysian Skills Certificate) Level 3 video production course that takes 27 months, accepts applicants aged 17 to 30 with or without SPM, and pays an allowance of RM100 a month.
- Politeknik Muadzam Shah's graphic design diploma takes 36 months, including one semester of industrial training.
- Applications for the UP_TVET Perdana intake 1/2027 close on 16 November 2026.
- Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi (BKPA, Jabatan Pendidikan Tinggi), Pekeliling Kemasukan ke UA, Politeknik, Kolej Komuniti dan MARA BPT bagi Lepasan SPM Sesi Akademik 2026/2027 (2026)
- TVET Malaysia (UP_TVET), Diploma Filem dan Video (APKFV), Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA), Kuala Lumpur
- TVET Malaysia (UP_TVET), Sijil Lanjutan Teknologi Maklumat (Penerbitan Video Kreatif), SKM Tahap 3, Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) Kemasik, Terengganu
- TVET Malaysia (UP_TVET), Diploma Rekabentuk Grafik (DRG), Politeknik Muadzam Shah, Pahang
- TVET Malaysia (UP_TVET), UP_TVET Perdana: Maklumat Ambilan Siri Perdana 1/2027 (2026)
What it costs and pays
On Day 3 you price each route, compare how long it takes and look up first pay from official sources (the Graduate Tracer Study and DOSM). Sourced figures for this area appear here once the First Move team has reviewed them.
AI and this work
What AI is changing, and what it isn't
Examples to argue with, not forecasts. On Day 1 you test them against a practitioner.
AI can help
Editing a video: auto-captions and rough cuts save time, the story and pacing are still yours.
Might be automated
Writing first drafts of captions and product descriptions.
Still needs a person
Sitting with a client to find out what they really want from a brief.
New work
Checking AI drafts for brand rules and rights, and telling clients what AI made.
What the evidence says
- On the ILO's 2025 index, graphic and multimedia designers score 0.49 out of 1, and advertising and marketing professionals and writers 0.55. Visual artists score 0.21 and musicians 0.28, in its lowest band, "not exposed". Global generative-AI task-exposure estimates; not a Malaysian forecast; not a job-security rating.
- Employers in the World Economic Forum (WEF) survey put graphic designers among the fastest-declining jobs to 2030, a reversal from 2023, and UI and UX designers among the fastest-growing. Global employer expectation, published 2025.
- In Anthropic's February 2025 data, arts, design, entertainment, sports and media tasks were 10.3% of Claude conversations, second only to computing. Anthropic usage data, not Malaysian demand.
- We did not find a current Malaysia-specific study of AI and creative jobs. TalentCorp's 10-sector study, reported in August 2025, did not include the creative industries.
- International Labour Organization (Gmyrek, Berg and others), Generative AI and Jobs: A Refined Global Index of Occupational Exposure (ILO Working Paper 140) (2025-05-20)
- World Economic Forum, The Future of Jobs Report 2025 (including economy and industry profiles) (2025-01-07)
- Anthropic, The Anthropic Economic Index (2025-02-10)
