Key facts

  • Applications for the UP_TVET Perdana intake 1/2027 run from 1 October to 16 November 2026. Its catalogue includes two SKM Level 3 sales and marketing courses.[1][2]
  • For 2026/27, a polytechnic diploma asked for 3 SPM credits and a pass in Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah; a community college certificate asked for 1 credit and the same passes.[3]
  • UiTM's business and accounting diplomas are open only to Malay, Sabah native, Sarawak native and Orang Asli applicants. Polytechnics run similar diplomas, including in Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Mukah.[4][5][6]
  • Bank Negara sponsors accounting, finance and economics students with at least 8As in SPM, and asks for two years of work at the Bank for every year it pays for.[7]
  • JPA's B40 diploma grant (DB40) took applications from 3 to 16 August 2026; the 2027 window was not announced on 23 October 2026.[8][9]

This guide names real business, accounting and entrepreneurship programmes you can apply to after SPM, from an 18-month skills course in Kelantan to an accounting degree in Kota Kinabalu. For each one you get how long it takes, where to check its entry rules and, where we looked, its accreditation record. Then it shows who pays for study in this area and which windows to watch.

Programmes to look at, by route

These twelve come from official listings fetched on 23 October 2026: UP_TVET, the polytechnic and community college intake portal (MyPOLYCC), and e-Panduan UPU, the Ministry of Higher Education's list of entry rules for public universities. The rules shown are the ones listed for 2026, so check again for your own intake. Where we looked a programme up on the MQR (the Malaysian Qualifications Register, MQA's public list of accredited programmes), we say what it showed. Where we did not, check it yourself: How to check a course is accredited shows how.

Skills certificates (SKM Level 3)

You apply for these through UP_TVET(opens in a new tab). Both teach you to sell and market farm-based products, which suits you if you like markets, trading and running a stall or small shop.

  • Institut Latihan FAMA Kota Bharu (ILFKB), Kelantan: Operasi Jualan dan Pemasaran Produk Berasaskan Pertanian, SKM Level 3. 18 months. Ages 17 to 30, with at least a G in SPM Bahasa Melayu or a tahfiz certificate. The listing also asks applicants to be single and to have no vision problems or colour blindness.[10] Entry rules on UP_TVET(opens in a new tab)
  • Kolej Pertanian Malaysia, Bukit Tangga, Kedah: Sijil Operasi Jualan dan Pemasaran Produk Berasaskan Pertanian (Tahap 3). 24 months. Ages 17 to 30, with at least a G in SPM Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah, a tahfiz certificate, or no formal qualification if you can read, write and count. Its listing names entrepreneur among the jobs it leads to.[11] Entry rules on UP_TVET(opens in a new tab)

An SKM (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia, the Malaysian Skills Certificate) comes from JPK, the Department of Skills Development, through training centres it has approved (pusat bertauliah), as ILFKB's listing explains.[10] Ask the institute for the course's JPK accreditation code before you accept a place.

Community college certificate

  • Sijil Pengoperasian Perniagaan, at 11 community colleges including Kolej Komuniti Penampang (Sabah), Pasir Mas (Kelantan), Kulim (Kedah) and Hulu Langat (Selangor). 4 semesters, covering accounting records, cash flow, marketing and sales support, and basic entrepreneurship. SPM entry is 1 credit and a pass in Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah.[12][4] After it you can apply for polytechnic diplomas such as business studies, marketing, entrepreneurship and logistics.[12] The MQR lists Penampang's Certificate in Business Operation (MQA/FA8068) as accredited from 15 November 2016.[13] Programme page on MyPOLYCC(opens in a new tab)

Polytechnic diplomas

You apply for polytechnic and community college places through UPU, and each programme's special requirements (syarat khas) are in e-Panduan UPU.[3]

  • Diploma Pengajian Perniagaan, at 12 polytechnics including Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, Politeknik Mukah Sarawak, Politeknik Kota Bharu and Politeknik Ungku Omar. 6 semesters. SPM passes in Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah, English and Mathematics, plus 3 credits.[5][4] The MQR lists Politeknik Kuching's Diploma in Business Studies (MQA/FA3243) as accredited from 21 January 2013.[14] Programme page on MyPOLYCC(opens in a new tab)
  • Diploma Perakaunan, at 16 polytechnics including Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Politeknik Kuching Sarawak and Politeknik Mukah Sarawak. SPM passes in Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah and English, and 3 credits including Mathematics. Its listing names assistant accountant, assistant auditor and tax technician among the jobs.[6] The intake portal says 5 semesters and e-Panduan UPU says 6, so ask the polytechnic.[6][4] The MQR lists Politeknik Kota Kinabalu's Diploma in Accounting (MQA/FA3264) as accredited from 21 January 2013.[15] Programme page on MyPOLYCC(opens in a new tab)

  • UiTM: Diploma Pengajian Perniagaan (UPU code UE4340001). 5 semesters, at campuses including Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Mukah (Sarawak), Alor Gajah, Machang, Raub, Rembau, Segamat and Sungai Petani. It asks for at least a C in English and a C in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and is open only to Malay, Sabah native, Sarawak native and Orang Asli applicants.[4] The MQR lists the Kota Kinabalu campus's Diploma in Business Studies (MQA/SWA12646) as accredited from 8 March 2019.[16]

  • Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Perak: Diploma Keusahawanan (UPU code UA4345001). 6 semesters. It asks for at least a C in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and in English.[4] The MQR lists UPSI's Diploma in Entrepreneurship (MQA/FA0322) as accredited from 7 April 2015, with full accreditation kept at a December 2025 review.[18]

Look up any of these codes on e-Panduan UPU(opens in a new tab) to see the full rules.

Matrikulasi, Accounting stream

  • KPM Matrikulasi, Jurusan Perakaunan (KA0000005). 1 year. At least a C in Bahasa Melayu, English and Mathematics, an E in Sejarah and a C in three listed subjects. The Professional Accounting stream (KA0000006) is for Bumiputera applicants, includes an interview, and asks for an A in Mathematics and an A- in English.[4] After matrikulasi you apply for a degree through UPU in the Accounting category, P.[19]

Degrees, after matrikulasi, Form 6 or a diploma

The 2026/27 UPU rules for SPM leavers cover asasi, diploma and certificate places, not degrees. You apply for a degree later, as an STPM, matrikulasi, asasi or diploma holder.[3][19] The rules below are the ones e-Panduan lists for matrikulasi Accounting stream leavers; STPM and diploma holders have their own lists.[20]

  • Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu: Sarjana Muda Perakaunan dengan Kepujian (UH6344001). 8 semesters. • Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok: Sarjana Muda Keusahawanan dengan Kepujian (UU6345011). 7 semesters. A CGPA of 2.75, at least a C in SPM Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and English, and MUET Band 3.0.[20] Check it on the MQR(opens in a new tab).[23]

We have not listed private colleges here. If you look at one, ask for its fees in writing and find the programme on the MQR before you pay a deposit.

Who funds study in this area

Most money for business study is not reserved for business. It comes from national sponsors open to many fields, aid tied to the type of institution, and your state. Scholarships and study loans after SPM explains how each kind works, and B40, M40 and study aid shows who qualifies and the cash you need before any aid arrives.

Aid tied to where you study

  • Community college aid (BKPKK). For community college students from low-income families on a course of at least 4 semesters, such as the business operation certificate above. Parents' income must be RM3,000 or less, and you cannot have another sponsor during the course.[24] MyGOV shows no dates, so ask the college when you register.
  • Disability aid (BKOKU). If you are registered as OKU with JKM (the Social Welfare Department) and hold an OKU card, you can apply for BKOKU for study after SPM.[24]

National sponsors

  • JPA Dermasiswa B40 (DB40). A grant for diploma study, including TVET diplomas, at public universities, polytechnics, TVETMARA institutes, IKTBN and ADTEC, for households with per-capita income of RM5,249 a month or less. It asks for credits in Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah plus at least a C in three other subjects, and an offer from the institution.[9] The 2026 round ran from 3 to 16 August 2026 for SPM 2025 leavers; the 2027 window was not announced on 23 October 2026.[8][9]
  • MARA Tertiary Education Loan (TESP). A loan for a diploma or first degree at institutions MARA approves, for applicants who, with at least one parent, are Malaysian Bumiputera. Diploma applicants must be under 30, and B40 and M40 families get priority.[25] The 2027 window was not announced on 23 October 2026.[25]
  • PTPTN. The national study loan lends up to RM4,750 a year for a full-time diploma at a public university, polytechnic or community college. You get the full amount if your family receives STR (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah, the government cash aid), and 75% or 50% otherwise, depending on family income.[26] PTPTN basics explains repayment.

A sponsor that names business fields

  • Bank Negara Malaysia (Kijang scholarships). It funds Economics, Accounting and Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science and Law, for degrees at overseas universities on its approved list.[7] The pre-university scholarship asks for at least 8As (A+ and A only) in SPM along with a CEFR result, and for the 2026 round you had to be 19 or under on 1 July 2026. The undergraduate scholarship took applications from 17 to 26 April 2026 and asks for a CGPA of 3.50 after STPM, matrikulasi, a diploma or a foundation.[7] You then work two years at the Bank for each year of study, so six years for a three-year degree.[7] The 2027 window was not announced on 23 October 2026.[7]

Your state

  • Sabah. The PTPS portal is where you apply for Sabah state sponsorship, including the State Government scholarship (BKNS) and the Yayasan Sabah Group; BKNS applications for 2026 closed on 31 August 2026.[27]
  • Sarawak. Yayasan Sarawak lends to anak jati Sarawak (at least one parent Sarawakian) for a diploma or degree at a public university you entered through UPU. It needs a C in SPM Bahasa Melayu and two guarantors in permanent jobs, and takes applications all year.[28]
  • Other states. Scholarships and loans from your state lists each state foundation and what it asks for.

What this means for you

  • You do not need top grades to start. The skills courses ask for a G in one or two subjects, and the community college certificate asks for one credit and leads on to a polytechnic diploma.
  • Who can apply differs by institution. UiTM's diplomas and MARA's loan are for Bumiputera applicants only; the polytechnic and community college programmes ask that you are a Malaysian citizen who meets the grades.
  • Read the English and Mathematics lines first. Most business and accounting programmes here set a grade for one or both, and accounting usually asks for more than general business.
  • The rules shown are the ones listed for 2026. Treat them as a guide, not a promise, and check each programme's page again for your own intake.
  • Big scholarships such as Bank Negara's want straight As and come with a work bond. For most families DB40, PTPTN, MARA, community college aid and the state foundation are the realistic money, so check those first.

Your next step

  1. Shortlist three programmes on different routes, for example a skills course or the community college certificate, a polytechnic or UiTM diploma, and a degree to aim for later. Open each official page above, write down its entry rules, and look it up on the MQR(opens in a new tab).
  2. Note one funding window. If a skills course fits, the UP_TVET Perdana intake closes on 16 November 2026. If you are aiming for a diploma, check the JPA sponsorship portal(opens in a new tab) weekly from June 2027 for the next DB40 round.
