Sources checked on 23 October 2026. Intake dates and charges below belong to the named route and year; recheck before applying.

Key facts

  • PTPS groups BKNS, Yayasan Sabah, MUIS, Baitulmal and other assistance. Scholarship, study loan and one-off registration or travel help are different offers.[1]
  • BKNS 2026 closed 31 August 2026. Yayasan Sabah’s original advert says 6 May 2026, while PTPS records an extension to 21 May 2026. Both are past dates; the extension is not a new open round.[2][3]
  • Yayasan Sarawak’s domestic loan page says applications are open throughout the year, subject to scheme conditions. That is a loan application window, not a university intake or automatic award.[4]

Entry, intake and duration

Yayasan Sabah’s advert gives Malaysian-citizen and Sabah-origin/permanent-resident parent combinations, prioritising those originating and residing in Sabah. Certificate/diploma/degree applicants must be no more than 35. Read the exact parent alternatives; studying in Sabah alone is not enough.[3]

Its KTYS/polytechnic/UiTM dermasiswa example lists three SPM credits including BM. BCNS for high achievers instead requires at least five A+ including BM in SPM 2025. They are different schemes, not inconsistent grade rules for one award.[3]

Yayasan Sarawak’s domestic route requires Malaysian citizenship, at least one Sarawakian parent, full-time study, no other sponsorship, BM credit (SPM C or specified equivalent) and two permanently employed guarantors no older than 60. Its named institutions include public universities entered through UPU and listed Sarawak-owned institutions. Confirm your exact course.[4]

The separate Sarawak technical-training loan requires ages 16–30 and a panel training provider, and funds training fees up to RM10,000 per year. Do not transfer those age or amount limits to the domestic university loan.[4]

Costs, salary and source differences

The domestic Sarawak loan starts repayment 12 months after graduation; the technical-training loan says six months after training. First payment requires complete agreement documents, and later domestic payments require results. A universal domestic award amount or funded study length is not published on the page.[4]

Source differences: the Sabah date difference is a documented extension; Sarawak’s different repayment periods belong to different schemes. No unresolved contradiction was found in those scoped rules. Ask for actual fee/allowance coverage, full borrowing cost and renewal terms. First salary: not published by these funding schemes.[2][3][4]

What this means for you

A state award is separate from admission. Keep one row per scheme with family connection, course, first payment and repayment. Ask the sponsor and school counsellor about uncertain conditions; this guide cannot decide eligibility.

Your next step

Open the official scheme and ask for written confirmation of eligibility, coverage, duration, first payment, other-sponsor rules and repayment. Include travel and hostel cash needed before aid arrives.
