Polytechnic diplomas in Sabah and Sarawak: compare real campuses

Sandakan, Mukah and Kuching examples: what you can study, entry checks, duration and tuition versus the full bill.

Key facts

  • Sabah example: Politeknik Sandakan lists Diploma Agroteknologi and Diploma Akuakultur. Sarawak example: Mukah advertises Civil, Electronic (Communication), Electrical and Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering diplomas. Offerings differ by campus.[1][2]
  • Duration: Mukah’s FAQ says three years including an industrial-training semester; Kuching lists six semesters or three years. Check the exact programme and any credit-transfer offer rather than assuming every diploma has the same length.[3][4]
  • Tuition: Mukah and Kuching publish RM200 per semester, excluding other charges. A low tuition figure is not the full cost of attending.[3][4]

Entry and intake

Sandakan’s published SPM route requires Malaysian citizenship, SPM or equivalent, a BM pass, a History pass for SPM from 2013 onward, and three credits in any subjects. Its page also lists practical-work disability restrictions. Ask admissions about your exact programme and access needs; this guide cannot decide whether you are eligible.[1]

Mukah’s FAQ uses a general December/June intake pattern. Do not treat it as the next closing date: use the current MyPolyCC intake notice and programme eligibility checker. Engineering subject requirements need checking separately from Sandakan’s general example.[3][5]

Budget and source differences

Sandakan publishes accommodation RM360 and miscellaneous first-semester charges up to RM300, alongside tuition RM200. Confirm whether the hostel charge is per semester and whether you have a room before paying. Kuching’s older FAQ shows hostel RM60 per semester for students offered a room. These are different campus/date scopes, not interchangeable hostel prices.[6][4]

First salary: campus-and-programme-specific first-salary ranges are not published in these admissions sources. Job-prospect lists are examples of possible work, not pay evidence or guaranteed vacancies. Ask for the latest graduate tracer data for your programme.[1][3]

What this means for you

Compare the workshop, laboratory or field tasks you would practise, placement arrangements, travel home and your family’s cash before aid arrives. Ask a school counsellor to help compare the exact diplomas rather than choosing from campus names alone.

Your next step

Open MyPolyCC, save your exact programme’s entry table and ask each campus for the current intake notice, full registration bill, hostel offer and aid timing. Include a travel quote in your own budget.
