Key facts

  • JPA lists DB40, PPN, JKPJ, local SPM-leaver sponsorship and PIDN separately. They have different study levels and conditions. “JPA scholarship” alone does not name a complete offer.[1]
  • The DB40 2026 announcement covers eligible first-time SPM 2025 candidates taking selected local diplomas at public universities, polytechnics, TVETMARA and ILKA. Not every diploma is covered.[2]
  • That round ran from 3 August 2026, 2 pm to 16 August 2026, 5 pm and is closed. The next opening is not published in this announcement.[2]

Entry, intake and duration

The announcement requires Malaysian citizenship, first-time SPM candidacy, age below 19, or below 20 for transition students, on 31 December of the SPM year, relevant health conditions and no JPA blacklist/legal-action issue. Get the full academic and approved-course sheet too.[2]

Resolved for the 2026 round: JPA’s own announcement dated 5 August 2026 sets household per-capita income at RM5,249.00 a month or below. Use that intake-specific document for the closed 2026 DB40 round. The undated government initiative summary’s RM4,849 is superseded for this comparison; it is not the governing 2026 threshold. Neither figure establishes a later intake’s conditions.[2][3]

Costs, salary and source differences

JPA’s DB40 explanation describes a bursary with repayment exceptions for withdrawal or failure. That does not establish repayment for other JPA schemes. A complete current fee/allowance amount and funded duration are not published in the cited announcement; use your actual award agreement.[4][2]

First salary: not published by this sponsorship scheme. An award is not a job offer or a salary prediction. Ask what the family must pay before the first aid payment.[2]

What this means for you

Compare a suitable course and its funding separately. Ask a counsellor and sponsor to help distinguish a grant from a conditional loan before choosing.

Your next step

Save the exact scheme, intake year and official advert. Request full eligibility, approved courses, coverage, first-payment date and repayment conditions before accepting.
