Key facts
General entry: pass SPM with a BM credit and be aged 17–20 on 1 January of the current year. KPM publishes separate MBPK rules, including a wider age range and a BM pass. Do not apply the main-route rule to every applicant.[3]
Exam fees: KPM says fees for four and/or five subjects are free for government and government-aided school candidates. Private-school and individual private candidates are excluded from that statement.[4]
Which stream can you enter?
KPM’s mainstream STEM rule needs three credits in specified subject groups with grade points totalling no more than 18 units. Mainstream day-school Social Science needs three credits totalling no more than 12 units. Religious-school and MBPK routes have different tables; ask the school to calculate your actual combination.[3]
Eligible SPM leavers can receive an automatic Form 6 offer according to the government summary. The exact next offer, registration and appeal dates are not published in the pages checked here. Confirm with your school or JPN rather than copying an older year’s dates.[5]
Costs, salary and a source caveat
Free exam fees are not a complete household budget. Current transport, meals, school-specific charges and private-candidate fees are not published as one total in these pages. Ask the school and MPM for the charges that apply to you.[4]
Source caveat: the government overview uses broad comparisons with other qualifications. Those do not establish subject equivalence or admission to a particular degree. UPU’s categories and the degree’s special requirements must be checked separately. A STPM-specific first-salary range is not published in these sources.[5][2]
What this means for you
Ask whether your local centre actually teaches the subjects your intended degrees require. A familiar school and living at home can suit some families, but compare your own commute and learning needs with a counsellor.
Your next step
Take your results to the school’s Form 6 coordinator. Confirm your entry calculation, available subjects, offer or appeal process and a written list of costs. Then compare those subjects with your degree shortlist.
